Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 18:02:51 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding #239:Comments CRUCIAL,Families Feud I'll reiterate that everyone should get written commentaries on http://www.renewnyc.org/content/pdfs/WTCDraftScope.pdf (a PDF document) or the if Google-generated HTML version in IMMEDIATELY! Mail to LMDC Public Comment on the Draft Scope WTC GEIS 1 Liberty Plaza,20th Floor New York,New York 10006 THEY WILL BE IGNORED IF NOT DELIBVERED THERE BY MONDAY! If you live too far away for mail to get there in time, the webform at http://www.renewnyc.com/plan_des_dev/frm_comments.asp may be your only chance...and it limits what you can say to a maximum of 3000 characters. Agustsin Ramos phoned them and confirmed they are NOT accepting comments sent to their email address, and I am not sure they would bother with comments sent to them by fax(212-962-2431 or -2433). They have a clear history of using any excuse possible to ignore public comments...current development corporation president Kevin Rampe cooked up the policy of locking away any letters suggesting what should get built unless writers signed a total waiver of intellectual property rights, and letters mentioning memorial ideas in any way were routinely locked away "so as not to prejudice the memorial competition". Get your voice through that brick wall. Tell them not to soft-pedal the hazards caused by restoring the street grid. Tell them you are worried about the pit...that the wall may collapse, the effects of weather and pollution, and the obstacles it presents in general...and that you want these hazards well covered. Praise the "Restoration Alternative",say they should have started considering it a long time ago,and insist that it be evaluated on the assumption of modern technology being used.Note that there's no reason to assume it means no memorial. Speak with your own voice. Cherie Fernandez(Rayden Tron) got a letter published in Newsday, which is highlighted on the Team Twin Towers news page. MEANWHILE... it appears that family groups are actively feuding over how to observe the anniversary.Lee Ielpi of the Coalition of 9/11 Families wants a big pro-mega-memorial rally on September 11th this year, while Jill Pall of Adam's Angels(and September's Mission) wants the anniversary to be for quiet reflection, not rabble-rousing. Each is looking for support,we'll see how it sorts itself out. Sally Regenhard has not answered my email asking if the Skyscraper Safety Campaign agrees with the Coalition opposition to the emergency exits from the PATH station entering onto the Tower footprints. Let them feud or fade...we MUST hang together and stay interested in order to win ythe return of giant towers to the site, the best honor for the dead and the best solution for the living. Don't leave it to someone else...do your part! See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
