Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2005 21:28:59 -0500 (EST) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding #339:New Year,New Towers,But Not Here! My apologies for leaving the Subject line of what was of course WTC Rebuilding #338 blank.I continue to archive older mailings at http://www.put.com/wtc/archive.html as part of the WTCRM resource page http://www.put.com/wtc/ which is updated periodically. I note that Downtown Express (linked at the WTCRM page) has had another debate in its "Talking Point" section between Dave Stanke (not exactly a pro-Towers man) and megamemorialists...pro-rebuilding comments can be posted in their website. Since my last mailing the dedication festivities for the new World's Tallest Building in Taipei have been completed. It's open for business and people can take elevators up to real floors far higher than any of Libeskind's proposed roofs. Today Comcast announced plans for its new headquarters which will be the tallest building in Philadelphia at 975 feet.In the announcement they tell how proud they are to be in Philadelphia, they refused to move to New York as part of their acquisition of AT&T Broadband despite nearly losing the deal.Obviously the desire to be in a "signature" building is FAR from dead, for all the moaning about targets. Also in recent days we've learned the full extent of the catastrophe that struck the Indian Ocean...a natural cataclysm that dwarfs manmade power (the earthquake is said to have had the power of well over a million Hiroshima bombs).Former Presidents who were given honorary status in promoting fundraising for the Arad memorial are taking an active role in raising money for humanitarian relief for the affected countries. I do hope that potential contributors will see it as a more deserving cause to restore livelihoods to those whose families and homes have been devastated by a cataclysm of epochal proportions, than to pay for the construction of a symbolic open wound setting in stone the unholy work of a gang of murderers. Never give up! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
