Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 18:11:18 -0500 (EST) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding #419:Battling Opinions,Don't Keep Yours Quiet! If you haven't yet signed at http://www.twintowersalliance.com/petition/ could you please give me your reasons WHY not? I think it important that this appeal get as many signatures as possible whatever details of the designs we support, and would appreciate knowing what reasons pro-rebuilders have for passing it by. Bill Hough sent me a link to an article from Opinion Journal by urban-utopian Julia Vitullo-Martin of Manhattan Institute http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110008095 that I found absolutely wrong-headed,loving the carving up of the site,fear-driven,and ending with an attack on the old WTC. I entered a scathing critique at "Respond to this Article" which the site editors chose not to post, and it seems I am not alone. Another article about the Silverstein/PA battles is at http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/16/wtc.dispute/ We got positive letters in http://nypost.com/postopinion/letters/61039.htm (all good and no bad!) My letter (edited slightly, softening my "addled artsiness" "added artistic interpretation") was my March 14 letter to the Post, not my more topical letter of March 16. Silverstein's peace offer to the PA has seen coverage: http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/61117.htm http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/65532.htm http://www.nydailynews.com/03-17-2006/news/story/400426p-339253c.html Talks have resumed: http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/65707.htm The Daily News had a really obnoxious editorial that I found backward indeed, calling bad developments good ones: http://www.nydailynews.com/03-17-2006/news/story/400272p-339104c.html it even closes with an appeal to donate to the despised official memorial. Reaction has included an appeal for a popular "eminent domain" takeover in a letter in the March 20 Daily News (except ED doesn't take land FROM the control of incompetent politicians,it imposes their will). More letters including good points: http://nydailynews.com/03-21-2006/news/ideas_opinions/story/401362p-340008c.html Friday's NY Times had an editorial "Greed vs. Good" which cast Silverstein as "Greed" and said he should yield while they were careful not to say the FT,which their articles never fail to say is regarded as too big, should be built. It ends, however,by saying that what is built must be "worthy of the site", which WE all know means BIGGER than the FT!! ((Reminder: Arthur Schiff...counsel to the City Council committee on Lower Manhattan Redevelopment which Alan Gerson chairs...will accept comments addressed to him at 250 Broadway,14th Floor New York,New York 10007 and the more people attack the official planning process and its results as NOT worth implementing, the better! )) See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
